Utah Young Playwright's Festival

The Utah Young Playwright’s Festival is going green! In order to be more environmentally friendly, cost effective and more efficient all submissions will only be received electronically. Sponsored by the Utah Theatre Association, the Utah Young Playwright’s Festival is in its ninth year and has given out over $2200 in award money so far. Any Utah high school or junior high student that plans on registering for the UTA Conference 2010 is eligible to submit a script. Outstanding scripts receive staged readings at the conference, they may also be sent on to a national festival, and the top playwrights are presented with cash awards.

The 2010 UTA Young Playwright’s Festival deadline is December 1, 2009. If you do not submit a play by the deadline, it will not be considered for the conference awards.

Guidelines for the script submission:

1. Only one play per student.
2. Students must be high school or junior high students for the 2009-2010 school year.
3. The script needs to have a running time of 10-20 minutes (10-20 pgs generally). Plays that are longer will not be considered.
4. Students must be registered for the 2010 UTA Conference by registration deadline.
5. Students need to submit their play in a Word document via email to dhathaway@judgememorial.com . You will receive a confirmation email upon receipt of the play.
6. The playwright’s name and school should be on the cover page only.|
7. The play must be submitted in the accepted playwriting format. This format can be found at http://www.playwriting101.com/ (specifically chapters 5-15).
8. All submissions must received by the December 1, 2009 deadline.
9. Any questions should be directed to Darin Hathaway at (801) 363-8895 or dhathaway@judgememorial.com.

We are excited to see the quality scripts produced by Utah students
each year and want to thank you for helping to nurture
the work of young writers in your program.
